Harm Reduction

Harm reduction is an approach that helps reduce the risks and harms associated with drug use. It includes strategies like providing naloxone to prevent overdose deaths, offering clean syringes, and educating people about safer drug use. Harm reduction is important because it helps save lives, prevents the spread of diseases, and connects people to healthcare and support services. It supports people where they are in their lives without encouraging drug use, helping them stay safe and healthy while providing opportunities to access treatment and recovery services if they choose.

The primary harm reduction center in Atlantic County is the Oasis Drop-In Center in Atlantic City. Operated by the South Jersey AIDS Alliance, it is one of the designated and state-registered Harm Reduction Centers (HRC) in New Jersey.
